Back Problems? It’s Chiro Mom to the Rescue!
New Bellmore chiropractor wants to “bring out the superhero in you.”
By Chris Boyle
Superman? Spiderman? Who needs them? Bellmore now has a superhero to call its own – Chiro Mom!
Chiro Mom’s alter ego, Dr. Dana Walters, is a mild-mannered chiropractor who opened up her own Bellmore practice at 2874 Merrick Road in May. The heroic character of “Chiro Mom” is just her fun, unique way of standing out in a crowded marketplace.
After going to undergraduate school at SUNY Buffalo and graduating in 1997, Walters went to Life University Chiropractic School in Atlanta, Ga. Upon graduating in 2001, she went to work for a chiropractic office on the Upper West Side in Manhattan for about 10 years. However, the long commute from her home in East Meadow eventually became an issue.
“It was a great experience, I had wonderful patients, but I live out here,” she said. “I have two small kids, and I was there three really long days a week- I’d leave at six in the morning and get home at eight at night -i t was just getting to be too much.”
Instead of simply finding a practice to join on Long Island, Walters decided it was time to finally go into business for herself.
“It’s something that I’ve always wanted,” she said. “I worked for someone else for a long time, and having my own practice has always been my dream.”
In addition to standard chiropractic and the services of an on-staff massage therapist, Walters feels she has a lot of knowledge to offer the community in terms of living an overall healthy lifestyle; she offers nutrition, weight management, and exercise instruction as well.
While most people going into business for themselves in such an uncertain economy are sure to feel a pang of trepidation, Walters feels the odds are in her favor for a number of reasons.
“If the economy is good or if it’s bad, people still need health care,” she said. “I do work with insurance, but even if people don’t have insurance, I make it affordable. After all, you need to have your health to enjoy life. It’s scary, but I don’t let that stop me.”
One point that Walters wants to drive home is her belief that chiropractic care should be a part of everyone’s healthy lifestyle.
“At Chiro Mom, I offer innovative chiropractic care for the entire family,” she said. “Your health is the most valuable asset that you can have, and without your health, what else is there?”
Testimonial from one of our Patients, Colleen:
Dr. Dana saved my life!
Seriously! I am a full time working mom of two very active preschool age boys. At the time Dr. Dana started treating me I was feeling absolutely miserable and not at all myself. I was lethargic, irritable, and had very little patience because I was in constant pain. I even experienced difficulty getting out of bed in the morning. I knew I was in the right place from my first interaction with Dr. Dana’s office. When scheduling the appointment, I was greeted by super friendly staff who empathized with my pain and reassured me that I had made the right call. Dr. Dana is not only sincere and genuine in wanting to help her patients. She is very thorough and developed a treatment plan specific to my needs. She doesn’t approach treatment as one size fits all. Dr. Dana took the time to understand my pain issues and provided a plan that was right for me and my hectic schedule. Shortly after treatment, I started feeling better and today after several months I am feeling great! I have more energy and motivation. The best part is the pain is gone! Although my boys will probably argue that the best part is the piggy back rides that I am now able to give them! I truly haven’t felt this great in years. Thank you Dr. Dana! You have really made a difference in my life and my family’s life!
